The Clippers scored five runs in the first off Richard De Los Santos, who was ejected in the third inning after hitting Wes Hodges with a pitch. Hodges had homered in the first inning.

Clippers starter David Huff got the victory after taking a perfect game into the fifth inning.

Every Columbus starter had at least two of the team’s 20 hits. Jerad Head homered with two singles and six RBI for the Clippers, while Jared Goedert homered, doubled and singled for three RBI.

The home team led 17-1 before Justin Ruggiano hit a grand slam for the Bulls in the eighth.

Game two is on Wednesday night at Columbus, while the remainder of the series is at Durham Bulls Athletic Park beginning on Thursday.
