Simple Music Video Series: Mandolin Orange's "Horse Tune"

Posted by on Fri, Jul 6, 2012 at 3:11 PM

When Mandolin Orange rolls back into town on Wednesday to play the Duke Performances Music in the Garden Series, they may not quite be the band you saw just months ago. Besides stepping out of their comfortable stomping grounds in the Southeast for their first Midwestern tour, they've also added Josh Oliver (formerly of the everybodyfields) to the fold. Given Oliver's track record alongside songbird Jill Andrews, he should complement the progressive direction in which Mandolin Orange seems to be headed very well.

Those attending the Music in the Garden performance will also be treated to what is becoming a more and more rare occurrence—Jeff Crawford and James Wallace will be providing the delightful rhythm section. The 7 p.m. show costs $5–$12.

Today's session features an unreleased Mandolin Orange track, tentatively titled "Horse Tune."

The purpose of the Independent Weekly's Simple Music Video Series is to capture local and touring musicians who we feel are producing something special. The hope is to capture something very simple in order to mirror the experience of viewing a performance as if you were in a small crowd watching a quiet set. We hope for content of the music to be the primary focus of the series, not multiple camera angles meant to keep the viewer guessing and entertained.

Most bands featured in the series will be a sample of the deep pool of talent in the Triangle, while others will represent some of our touring favorites.
