Breaking: Pat McCrory Concedes Governor's Race

Posted by on Mon, Dec 5, 2016 at 12:17 PM

In a video statement, Governor Pat McCrory has finally conceded the governor's race to Roy Cooper.

"Despite continued questions that should be answered regarding the voting process, I personally believe a majority of our citizens have spoken, and we now should do everything in our power to support the 75th Governor of North Carolina, Roy Cooper," McCrory said. "The McCrory administration team will assist in every way to help the new administration make a smooth transition."

Republican attorney general candidate Buck Newton, who is behind by over 24,000 votes, also conceded on Monday, to attorney general-elect Josh Stein. That means the only outstanding statewide race remaining is the North Carolina auditor's race, where Democratic incumbent Beth Wood currently leads Chuck Stuber by 5,999 votes.

Reactions and statements on the McCrory concession are rolling in from Democrats and Republicans.

Cooper:
Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger, who is definitely Not Mad:
NCDP chair Patsy Keever:
“Congratulations to Governor-Elect Roy Cooper on his historic victory. On Election Day, North Carolina voters across the state showed that they want a strong leader who will focus on putting the interests of all North Carolinians first. We look forward to working with Governor-Elect Cooper to support working North Carolinians, invest in our public schools, and work to build a better North Carolina."
We'll continue to update this story as we get more information.
