Trump Bringing Corker to Raleigh; FBI Recommends No Charges Against Clinton

  • Senator Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) has offered to advise Trump on foreign policy.
You likely won't see North Carolina Republican bigwigs such as Governor Pat McCrory or Richard Burr slumming with Donald Trump at tonight's campaign stop in Raleigh.

But, if you actually plan to attend the 7 p.m. rally at Memorial Auditorium at the Duke Energy Center for Performing Arts, you will feel the electric charisma of Republican Tennessee Senator Bob Corker.

Let the veep speculation escalate!

From Roll Call:

Republican Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., a potential running mate for presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, will campaign with Trump today in North Carolina.

Corker, who is chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, will appear with Trump in Raleigh. Corker alsomet with the billionaire businessman at Trump Tower in May.

But Corker has been critical of Trump's rhetoric in the past, saying in an ABC interview last month that "I think that he’s going to have to change. I’m not talking about him necessarily changing his views, but I think that he’s moving into a different phase, he’s talking to the right people."

Everyone should have figured out by now that the senator has been butt-kissing his way to a favored spot on the running-mate shortlist for a while now.  Jesus — he even went so far as to call Donald's bizarre Scotland golf course appearance after the Brexit vote "one of his best" events.

Corker, the chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has also offered to give Trump foreign policy advice whenever needed. Hint, hint.

That's all very well and good, but Clinton's got Trump beat today, because (a) she'll be in Charlotte with the president  and (b) the FBI says she shouldn't face charges over her use of a private email server for State Department correspondence.

From The New York Times:

The F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, said on Tuesday that the F.B.I. was recommending no charges against Hillary Clinton for her use of a personal email server while secretary of state.

Mr.Comey said that “no reasonable prosecutor” would bring a case against Mrs. Clinton for her handling of classified information on her private server. But he said Mrs. Clinton and her staff were “extremely careless” in their use of email.

The F.B.I.’s recommendation to the Justice Department will have an enormous impact on the presidential election.

Attorney General Loretta Lynch said on Friday that she would accept whatever recommendation she received from the F.B.I.

It will surely be interesting to hear Donald's theories about that.

Trump has already complained today about the highly symbolic ride Clinton is getting, courtesy of the president, on Air Force One.

From USA Today:

"Why is President Obama allowed to use Air Force One on the campaign trail with Crooked Hillary?" the Republican candidate tweeted Monday. "She is flying with him tomorrow. Who pays?"

Traditionally, the White House and campaigns split the costs of trips that include an election candidate, with allocations to be determined later.

"As in other Administrations, we follow all rules and regulations to ensure that the DNC or other relevant political committee pays what is required for the President to travel to political events," the White House said in a statement.

We know, Donald. It's terrible. Just terrible.
