Trump Contributions on the Rise in North Carolina. Also, Who Are These People?

  • Who are the mouth-breathers giving money to Donald Trump's campaign?
Last week, Donald Trump said he thinks abortions should be illegal and women should be punished for having them. The week before, he took a shot at Ted Cruz’s wife based on her looks. Previously, he has said that all Muslims should be banned from entering the United States. He also wants to build a really high wall along the southern United States border to keep Mexicans from coming in. And he refused to denounce David Duke, a former grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan who supports Trump’s campaign. By the time this post reaches you, he will likely have said another insane or preposterous or hateful thing. Here, check Google News and find out.

Last month, Republican voters in North Carolina got their turn to vote for who they think the next President of the United States should be. A full forty percent of them—458,000 people—filled in the oval next to the name Donald J. Trump.

Who are the cretinous North Carolinians who want this man leading our country? There are a few ways to find out. You can go to one of Trump’s weird rallies and gaze at the sea of sagging white faces there. You can also check the Federal Election Commission for the names of people who want him to win so badly that they gave his campaign money. Here are some things we learned by browsing Trump’s list of itemized individual contributions:

From July 1, 2015, through September 30, 2015, thirty-seven North Carolina supporters gave Trump a total of $12,621.

Between October 1 and the end of 2015, Trump netted $14,943 from fifty-five contributors in North Carolina.

In January 2016, he received just $2,909 from thirteen North Carolinians.

In February 2016, Trump’s contributions shot up—forty-six North Carolinians gave him a total of $7,844. He also received an in-kind donation of $1,500 in the form of free rent from the family of that Trump supporter in Fayetteville with the neo-Nazi tattoo. Fayetteville is Trump Country—that’s where that old bubba with the ponytail sucker-punched a black guy at a rally.

Many of the people who are giving to Trump in North Carolina fall into categories you might expect: a truck driver from Statesville, a retired person in Shelby. But there are plenty of Trump contributors who don’t fit the mold of disaffected rural voter: an attorney in Greensboro, a dentist in Raleigh, the owner of Barry’s Cafe in Cary. They walk among us.
