A real estate attorney, Wayne Maiorano was handpicked by the development community to represent its interests on the Raleigh City Council.

But as Maiorano soon learned, it’s hard to be an effective Council member when recusing yourself from everything from granting contracts, to zoning cases, to Comprehensive Plan amendments, to site plan hearings becomes less the exception and more the rule.

Here is a brief history of every time Wayne Maiorano has recused, excused or removed himself from a Council discussion, or vote, in the last two years, as compiled by the INDY using City Council minutes:

To his credit though, Maiorano had a reputation among many of his constituents as being a thoughtful, straightforward and responsive member of Council, who met with them regularly and responded to their concerns in a timely manner. District A would do well to have another representative like him, without quite so many conflicts of interest.
