Durham Solidarity Center plans protest tonight, starting at police headquarters

Posted by on Fri, May 1, 2015 at 12:10 PM

Tonight's protest at the Durham Police Department could take on another dimension, since just an hour ago, Freddy Gray's death at the hands of six Baltimore cops was ruled a homicide.

The Durham Solidarity Center is leading the protest, which begins at 5 p.m. Demonstrators will then march to the Durham County Jail.

A national day of action is also planned for Saturday, May 2, during which protesters throughout the U.S. are expected to take to the streets to demonstrate against many police departments' systematic use of force—some of it fatal—against people of color.

Gawker has a list of 76 men and women who were unarmed when killed by police from 1999-2014. This tally does not include Gray's death or others that occurred in 2015.
