Democrats sweep Wake County Commissioners Race

Posted by on Tue, Nov 4, 2014 at 10:44 PM

There are now no Republicans left on the Wake County Board of Commissioners.

Democratic challengers Sig Hutchinson, Matt Calabria, Jessica Holmes and John Burns beat their Republican incumbent challengers in County Districts 1, 2, 3 and 7 respectively—and handily—by close to, or more than ten percent, of the vote.

Running as a bloc, the Democrats challenged incumbents Joe Bryan, Phil Matthews, Rich Gianni and Paul Coble on education funding, teacher pay, transit and the environment.

They join Democratic Commissioners Caroline Sullivan, James West and Betty Lou Ward in the super (super) majority.

Here are the results of the Wake County Commissioners Race from the North Carolina Board of Elections:

Sig Hutchinson

54.65%

Joe Bryan

45.35%

Matt Calabria

56.29%

Phil Matthews

43.71%

Jessica Holmes

56.24%

Rich Gianni

43.76%

John Burns

54.41%

Paul Coble

45.59%
