Water restrictions lifted in Durham

Posted by on Fri, Sep 5, 2008 at 8:55 AM

After T.S. Hannah drenches your lawn Friday and Saturday, feel free to water it--as long as you use a hose. Durham City Manager Tom Bonfield has lifted all outdoor water restrictions, with the exception of sprinklers, which Durhamites can use from 5-8 a.m., or 5-8 p.m., Wednesdays and Saturdays. That means Saturday night Slip 'n Slide parties must end by 8 p.m. sharp. According to weather forecasts, the storm will have passed in time for the party. (On second thought, sprinklers may only be used for watering "lawns, grass, trees, shrubbery, flowers, golf greens or vegetable gardens." But wait--Slip 'n Slide uses a hose. No restrictions on hoses. Hooray!)

Update: So do sprinklers. Are Slip n' Slides primarily hoses, or sprinklers?  Bonfield's got us covered: "Customers must actually be holding the watering hose, can, etc.; watering by hand cannot occur unattended." In other words, you must be actively slipping, and sliding.
