For the third year in a row, Girls Rock NC is hosting its Rock Roulette showcase, an inventive effort meant to both spark creativity and raise money for its efforts to encourage female and nonbinary kids to learn both music and self-esteem. About ten weeks ago, a handful of folks signed up to be randomly assigned to form ten new, one-off bands. They've been working up sets ever since and will strut their stuff in the name of youth empowerment. In addition to paying the modest $10 cover and donating directly to Girls Rock NC, you can also use your money to vote for your favorite Rock Roulette band to win ten hours of recording time. Those "votes" also go straight into the Girls Rock coffers. It's a can't-lose good time, with the biggest winners being the next generation of fearless young musicians. —Allison Hussey
