While Moogfest roared one county over, the quiet and serene setting of RambleRill Farm hosted a barn dance with California-based Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys. The concert was presented by Forty Acres, which has been presenting Americana concerts for over fifteen years, primarily at a neighborhood clubhouse on the outskirts of Chapel Hill.

A light rain gave way to a cool breeze entering the big Red Barn just as Big Sandy and company stepped past well wishers to play on the makeshift stage. Sandy's trademark voice paired with the jangly sounds of long-time sideman Ashley Kingman filled the barn quickly and led to dancing alongside the stage for most of the evening's two sets. The group debuted two new songs, the catchy "Fine Fine, Superfine" as well as another throwback-sounding tune, "Every Time." As the group encored and the crowd lined up at the merch stand, the band packed the van quickly for the grueling fifteen-hour drive to the next show in Milwaukee. For a group with ties to the area via Yep Roc Records, they do not make it to the Triangle often, so this evening in the unconventional yet intimate setting was extra special.

Please are clips from the evening's performance.
