Last week, the Mountain Goats teamed up with Loamlands for FU HB 2, a sold-out benefit for the Southern Vision Alliance. The Pinhook was packed with a noticeably younger crowd. Between songs, Kym Register—who runs Loamlands as well as The Pinhook—advocated for the full repeal of HB 2 and more funding for groups that support trans youth.

Selling "FU HB 2" shirts close-by was Durham City Council member Jillian Johnson, who also serves as the Director of Operations for the Southern Vision Alliance. She received a rousing round of applause from the packed crowd for her  tireless work advocating LGBTQ rights.

John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats followed with a mesmerizing set, which included several rare and unreleased songs. At the end of the set, Darnielle performed an a cappella version of "Amy aka Spent Gladiator 1," by moving through the crowd, snatching one phone being used to record him, and parading to the back of The Pinhook, with people patting their chests and quietly singing along.

Below, watch a few clips from the performance.

Loamlands, "Get Ready"

The Mountain Goats, "Isaiah 45:23"

The Mountain Goats, "The Plague" and "Grendel's Mother"
