Alabama Shakes lead singer Brittany Howard says the decision by her Grammy-winning band to play tonight's show at Charlotte Metro Credit Union Ampitheatre, despite opposition to HB 2, is based on a belief that band boycotts harm people that don't deserve it.

Howard made her comments Thursday to podcaster John Norris on his "Official Sasquatch! Festival Podcast," as reported by Rolling Stone.

"We are going to play the show. We couldn't just say 'No, we're not showing up and I'm sorry your government is behaving this way.' That’s not the right thing to do," said Howard.
She also offered her views on why N.C.'s anti-LGBT law is, transparently, just that:

Speaking about the LGBT community, Howard said: "[It's] wrong to take their tax money, turn around and then disbar them from living with their identity that they fought so hard to understand and develop."
Father John Misty and Cyndi Lauper also plan to play the state soon, and to donate proceeds to Time Out Youth and Equality NC, respectively.
