Almost a month ago, Raleigh-based recording engineer Dan Lilley passed away after falling from a ladder at his home. The voracious music lover worked closely with avant-garde artists and helped create space for them to flourish in the Triangle. He recorded ensembles like Polyorchard and Cyanotype and opened his home to host performances from locals and travelers alike.

In the wake of Lilley's death, Lilley's family has requested those who loved him to come to a celebratory tribute at CAM Raleigh this Saturday. The memorial will feature a performance by acclaimed jazz pianist Fred Hersch, and begins at 2 p.m. (Hersch also performs in Chapel Hill Friday night with guitarist Julian Lage.)

After the get-together at CAM, there will be an after party at Lilley's former home on Devereaux Street, where guests will be able to listen to music in Lilley's custom "transporter room." Lilley's custom set-up was, by all accounts, a marvel, featuring a subwoofer of his own design, for which he'd recently received patents.

You can get more details about the celebration via the CaringBridge page set up by Lilley's family.
