Less than one week after the resignation of Carolina Theatre CEO Bob Nocek, the company's chief operating officer, Aaron Bare, resigned this afternoon after a nine-year tenure at the arts center. Bare announced the resignation through an email shared  with undisclosed recipients.

"Effective immediately, I am resigning my position as Chief Operating Officer for the Carolina Theatre of Durham, Inc," Bare wrote. "I have enjoyed working with all of you and am proud of what we have accomplished together during the last nine years."

Officials at the Carolina Theatre say there will be no press release on the matter and would make no mention of whether or not the resignations of both Bare and Nocek stem from the $1 million tax shortfall. The Carolina Theatre defered all questions to Scott Harmon, who chairs the organization's board of trustees.

Neither he nor Bare were immediately available for comment. The INDY will update this story as more information about Bare's resignation becomes available.

Update: This afternoon, Aaron Bare sent the following statement to the INDY:

The timing of my voluntary departure from the Carolina Theatre is unrelated to last week's resignation of CEO Bob Nocek.

The time is right for me to move on to new things and I wish the staff and Board of the Carolina Theatre well under the leadership of interim CEO Dan Berman.
