Celebrating the release of The Quality Holiday Revue Live, Nick Lowe and Los Straitjackets brought their Christmas-themed show to Durham last week. Lowe began only with his acoustic guitar, playing a handful of numbers to “get the pitch of the room” before welcoming his backing band, Los Straitjackets.

This evening was the first tour stop for the posse's 2015 holiday tour. The setlist for the evening was not exclusive to holiday-themed songs, as Lowe mixed in several upbeat tunes like "Without Love" and "Cruel to be Kind." And after the day's news of another mass shooting, this time in San Bernadino, California, Lowe's "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace Love and Understanding" offered renewed poignancy.

Lowe took a brief break as Los Straitjackets ran through a medley of holiday tunes in their signature performance style, riling the crowd up for Lowe's eventual return. The group peaked with "Children Go Where I Send Thee," which serves as an almost-rockabilly themed holiday song. Lowe finally returned to the stage to play a quiet yet reverent take on "I Was Born In Bethlehem" before jogging off to end the night.
