Next year, Corrosion of Conformity will release a new album, on a new label, with a new lineup. Kind of.

The band's forthcoming 10th album, to be released by the multinational metal imprint Nuclear Blast Entertainment, will be the first since 2005’s In The Arms of God to feature singer/guitarist Pepper Keenan (also of Down). It follows 2012’s self-titled and 2014’s IX—both recorded by co-founders Woodroe Weatherman, Reed Mullin and Mike Dean. Still, ever since the trio reconvened in 2010 to reignite the band, they’ve been dogged by fans clamoring for a return to the Keenan-led hard rock of the band’s mid-’90s commercial peak. (Read our oral history of the fascinating band here.) Keenan finally rejoined the band late last year.

“After all these years, it’s truly inspiring to reawaken the chemistry that the four of us have,” Keenan said in a press release. “We are seriously fucking with our pants off now!”

The band will start recording with longtime producer John Custer sometime around the end of the year, with a release expected next fall. In the meantime, COC posted their previously unreleased cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “On The Hunt” yesterday, and you can stream it below. Recorded in 2004 with fill-in drummer Merritt Partridge, the track fits neatly alongside COC’s early-’00s classic rock revisions. Perhaps it portends the direction a new album with Keenan behind the mic may go?
