Kat Robichaud performs live on The Voice, hopes votes keep her warm

Posted by on Wed, Nov 6, 2013 at 12:05 PM

Kat Robichaud made her live debut last night on The Voice with a rendition of Mary Lambert’s “She Keeps Me Warm.” The song, a soft ballad about kind love, was a moment for the typically high-kicking Kat to show her softer side. “You’ve definitely got the rock edge. Let’s give them a tender moment,” advised her coach CeeLo Green.

The performance provided just that soft touch, with Kat never reaching for notes. Instead, at the end, she reached for a stranger in the crowd to hug. The judges were approving if not blown out of the water. “There are seven gears of Kat and I wanted to see the seventh gear,” noted Adam Levine. “Hugging the stranger was great, though.”

If it’s enough to save her spot is anyone’s guess. Perhaps her wildfire performance style in previous weeks will keep audiences and judges intrigued to see what might happen next. We'll find out Monday.

In any event, Kat has to be happy about her recent Twitter connection to the the aggressive (if divisive) presence of Amanda Palmer. Connected by an offhand Twitter reply yesterday, the two hit it off with their shared love of cabaret style music and Dr. Who (especially at the hands of Palmer’s husband, Neil Gaiman).

Palmer (from tour in Poland) graciously turned her enthusiasm for Kat into a promo interview on her blog and a flood of tweets. Who needs a Tardis when you have the Internet?

The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 9/8c on NBC.
