Tin Star EP almost ready; Luego with the recording stats; Mike Patton/Diplo at Signal?; See Pontiak tonight

Tin Star, the Durham trio-and/or-quartet led by ex-Tommygun member Jamie Miyares and ex-William Christ Supercar member Louis Botta, has finished recording and mixing its debut EP, which will be released on Chapel Hill's Fractured Discs. Fractured had a busy 2008 with Lud, Transportation and Dawn Chorus, and Tin Star makes for a nice '09 addition. The six-tracker is tentatively titled Bettie Lane, with Dillon Fence/Hobex man Greg Humphreys slated for mastering and Ron Liberti and Kevin Dixon slated to split artwork.

—"Mixing has been put off until February 16th due to an ear infection in Mr. Stamey's left ear. I haven't heard any of these songs in a few weeks now, so I'm putting some distance on them," writes Luego frontman Patrick Phelan regarding mixing his new album with Chris Stamey via the Durham band's MySpace blog. "I think about them all the time. Now, for some facts about the record, the "taped-together stories." Luego underwent a radical lineup transformation after its 2008 I Know, I Know EP (as explained by our Bryan Reed here), and the band's roster now leads something of a Triangle all-star panel: Phelan, Peter Holsapple, Jeff Crawford, Nick Jaeger and Rob DiMauro. The 11-song LP doesn't appear to have a title, but we do know this about it: 11 songs, 9 with piano, 10 with harmonies, eight with organ, 8-10 with a solo, 8 with a middle-8/bridge, 7 with a traditional chorus, 5 in a minor key, 6 in a major key, 3 with a tambourine, 3 with lapsteel and 7 with acoustic guitar. Statz sheetz, y'all.

—We previously announced that The Foreign Exchance—Little Brother's Phonte Coleman and Dutch producer Nicolay Rook—would be headlining their first N.C. club show at Cat's Cradle Friday, April 17, as part of this year's Signal festival. We're starting to hear rumors that Mike Patton will take the festival's Saturday night spot, followed by Diplo on Sunday night. No confirmation yet, but those could be big lands for the festival of perseverance.

—Go see Pontiak at Nightlight tonight or next week at Local 506 with Harvey Milk. They're awesome, and their "Shell Skull" is our Song of the Week (sorry for the delay!).
