Re: “Durham County Elections Chief Michael Perry: Do Your Job, Citizens

It would be helpful if, in addition to telling voters what they should be doing, that Mr Perry, the Durham County BoE Director, explain the new process concerning the voter ID which is a bit more complicated than somebody glancing at your ID for a few seconds. At my early-voting location on S Alston. I handed the clerk my NC Drivers License and she looked at it, looked at me, looked at it again and then placed it face down on the table in front of her. The clerk then instructed me to spell my name so she could look it up on her computer terminal. Why she didn't just use the information on the ID to find my registration data is unclear to me, and also why I had to go through the bother of spelling out my name in an "A as in Able, B as in Baker, etc." format was puzzling and consumed more than a few minutes, and most certainly more than it has ever taken before to locate my name on the voter rolls. And I have a relatively short name. If the registration procedure I experienced holds for the general election, expect long waits as each clerk goes through the pretense of not knowing the name and address of the person who just presented their ID.
