Youth Lagoon, Moon King

When: Tue., Nov. 3, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $17-$19
Trevor Powers’ precocious bedroom psychedelia and heartfelt helium croon made him an instant heir to the success of emotional late-’90s indie bands like The Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev or even Danielson Famile. Working with big-shot indie producers such as Ben Allen and Ali Chant has better articulated Powers’ singular weirdness. The recently released Savage Hills Ballroom brings the Youth Lagoon sound into sophisticated synth pop. His high, trembling voice makes his personal material yank the heartstrings harder, while his political stuff seems extra dopey given the setting. —Jeff Klingman
