your turnA Dialogue on Hate Crimes: Transforming Attitudes and Realities, Saturday, Feb. 5: The UNC School of Social Work and the UNC School of Law will hold the fourth annual conference on race, class, gender and ethnicity, focusing on the apparent rise of hate crimes in our nation. The daylong conference will feature presentations on the history of hate, the psychology of prejudice, the different victims of hate crimes and possible solutions to the problem. Lobbyists, activists and professors from our nation's leading universities will lead the presentations. The discussions will take place at the School of Social Work's Tate-Turner-Kuralt Building on UNC's campus, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and finishing at 5:30 p.m. A portion of the film Journey to a Hate-Free Millennium will be previewed, and a discussion with its director, Brent Scarpo, will follow on Sunday, Feb. 6, at UNC's Hanes Art Center Auditorium. Registration is $15 for the public and includes lunch. Students can attend for free. Call 969-9733 to register.
