Drama

Niels Arestrup stars in this French vineyard drama as one of the most loathsome villains of the year. Arestrup is Paul de Marseul, a haughty vintner who disdains Martin, his uncharismatic son, as a mediocrity unfit to inherit the generations-old family business. Meanwhile, François, his indispensible estate manager, is dying. But François has a son, Pierre, "with a nose like a truffle hound," who's off in America pursuing his fortune. As befitting of its grape-sy setting, the film takes on Biblical dimensions as the fathers and sons battle over their legacy. Stirring and painful this film is, but it also makes time for the wine and the scenery.
