Yeasayer, Javelin SOLD OUT

When: Sun., April 4, 9 p.m. 2010
Price: $14–$16

Using drum machines, distortion pedals and an array of samples that go from the top of the charts to the dust bins, New York duo Javelin is poised to be the latest in a string of sound-plunderers that repurpose other people's hits for their own party—and then get famous for doing so. But Girl Talk's always seemed interested in some sort of grand theater with his mash-ups, whereas Javelin aim for pure playfulness. Whether turning a rap verse into a chant of Chipmunks or getting a bit bleary-eyed on "Lindsay Brohan," they seem motivated by a resolute flippancy. This show is sold-out, but why not have an early-night dance party with those stuck outside, trying to find extras to see the night's headliner, Yeasayer, a band from Brooklyn that makes records. —Grayson Currin
