Best place to pretend you're bowling in virtual reality

AMF Durham Lanes

4508 Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard, Durham

(919) 489-9154

You have to give it up to Village Lanes for staying true to classic bowling, with little more to distract you from your frame than a dusty strip of eighties clip art. But for a truly twenty-first-century experience, nothing in Durham compares to AMF. Since the recent remodel, banks of HD screens stretch over the pins like the windshield of a starship, immersing you in an odd but energetic mix of sports broadcasts and Twenty One Pilots videos, wired together with a booming sound system and nightclub lighting. It feels like you're bowling inside a giant 3-D TV, bathed in exciting purple radiation.
