Words to Music

When: Thu., June 3, 8 p.m. 2010
Price: $12

The fifth installment of Deep Dish's Words to Music series could rightly be labeled a modern folk convocation. Jeffrey Dean Foster's selectively spare Million Dollar Hotel whittles four decades of listening into about that many minutes of forlorn beauty, a phrase often used to describe both Blakey's work in singing supergroup Tres Chicas and Roby's exceptional solo album, Rather Not Know. That preface, though, seems reductive, dampening the spark of these proven rock musicians—Blakey, of Let's Active; Roby of Six String Drag; Foster of The Right Profile—into some coffee-shop whisper sessions. Expect laughs, hard-luck stories and, above all, astounding songs. Doug Edmunds hosts the 8 p.m. show. —Grayson Currin
