Wood Ear, Overhead Projector, Neven J Carswell

When: Wed., April 11, 8 p.m. 2012
Price: Free

If you've been following the immigrations and emigrations of local music for the last several years, the pairing of Overhead Projector and Wood Ear might momentarily make you wonder if Barack Obama has actually been elected president yet. Both bands released fantastic expressions of an updated indie rock ethos in 2007 and then all but disappeared, playing shows rarely and basically slipping into memory between the waves of local music's recent rising tide. Tonight, at least, Overhead Projector returns with its slack-jawed, steely-eyed nexus of Merge and Matador glory, suggesting Pavement going pouty. Wood Ear pushes between poles of American Music Club and Son Volt, lining well-written bits concerning the annals of everyday frustration with perfectly brusque heartland rock. This is a good time capsule to open. Neven J. Carswell of the great Wembley opens the free show at 8 p.m. —Grayson Currin
