Will Johnson & Anders Parker

When: Tue., Sept. 18, 8 p.m. 2012
Price: $10-12
Will Johnson's Centro-matic and Anders Parker's Varnaline arose during the mid-'90s somewhere in the cracks between alt-country and indie rock, and their subsequent collaborations have delved deeper into that crevice. Johnson drums with Yim Yames, Conor Oberst et al. in the Monsters of Folk collective, while Parker teamed with Son Volt's Jay Farrar in the 2006 side-project Gob Iron. Those associations blurred together on this year's illuminating New Multitudes, in which Johnson, Parker, Farrar and Yames set music to lyrics from the Woody Guthrie archives. Johnson and Parker's present duo tour is mostly a small-room acoustic affair, and they'll take to the cozy third-floor mezzanine of this venue to ensure a similar vibe. Which means tickets to the 8 p.m. show are limited, so get 'em soon if you want to go. —Peter Blackstock
