Wild Geese, Whatever Brains, Super Vacations

When: Thu., Sept. 23, 10 p.m. 2010
Price: $5

The first of three nights shared between Whatever Brains and Virginia's Super Vacations might well boast the best headliner. The two bands play a Durham house show with The Capstan Shafts on Friday and a set at Kings in Raleigh with the Light Pines on Saturday, but Wild Wild Geese has the competition bested. Of course, any chance to see Whatever Brains' gonzo garage punk (especially after their strong showing at Hopscotch) is recommended, and The Super Vacations' chiming '60s boogie and echo-laden vocals are a treat, too. But upon hearing Wild Wild Geese's out-next-week Sorry, Earth and its punchy, Archers-meets-Replacements rock 'n' roll stagger, it's clear: Thursday is, for once, better than the weekend.—Bryan Reed
