White Cascade, Life in Vacuum, Bronzed Chorus

When: Wed., Nov. 9, 9 p.m. 2011
Price: $5

The downtown dive Slim's is often a good spot to get your midweek high-volume rock fix, and this bill is another prime example. Raleigh's White Cascade has steadily evolved for three years; elements of its initial shoegaze approach remain, but these are now tempered by hypnotic dance rhythms applied with near-Krautrock patience. Meanwhile, Life in Vacuum scatters post-punk and early '00s screamo styles with elements of prog and lite-math. Think a sarcastic, nastier, Canadian version of At the Drive-in. In the opening slot, Greensboro duo The Bronzed Chorus brings its danceable, increasingly synth-and-drums-based instrumental pop. —Corbie Hill
