Where the Wild Things Are and Star Trek

When: July 16-17, 9 p.m. 2010
Price: $4

This weekend, fantasy lovers are in for a treat at the NCMA. On Friday, Spike Jonze's sentimental adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic picture book Where the Wild Things Are will be on the big screen again. Max Records plays little Max, while a stellar supporting cast of Catherine Keener and Mark Ruffalo as well as voiceovers by James Gandolfini, Catherine O'Hara, Lauren Ambrose and Paul Dano round out this family-friendly film. On Saturday, a reboot of the highly beloved Star Trek franchise gets its second wind. Not just for Trekkies, director J.J. Abrams' film brings the universe of Star Trek to mainstream audiences by infusing action sequences that make the producers of Transformers blush with a cast of young Hollywood players that bring fresh portrayals to old favorites. Both screenings are at 9 p.m. —Belem Destefani
