Weird Al Yankovic

When: Thu., June 18, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $35-$260
Relief arrived in 2014 when music’s chattering class stopped fighting about appropriation and rockism long enough to appreciate “Weird Al” Yankovic, the master parodist and deft accordionist. Through his meticulous re-creations of pop songs, spot-on pastiche of acts like Devo and Sparks, gleeful polka medleys and absurdist looks at everyday items like bologna and Craigslist, Yankovic has earned affection from a wide demographic swath. Such adulation amped up excitement for last year’s Mandatory Fun. With its “Royals” parody about aluminum wrap, a Southern Culture on the Skids homage and a polka-incorporating “Call Me Maybe,” it delivered. Yankovic’s painstaking devotion to his craft and his unwillingness to punch down keep him vital. —Maura Johnston
