Weese Fest

When: Fri., July 1, 8 p.m., Sat., July 2, 8 p.m. and Sun., July 3, 7 p.m. 2011
Price: $10/night, $20/advance weekend pass

When Benton Weese is off-duty from his regular gigs slinging beers behind the bar at Big Boss or regulating the door at the Pour House, the Raleigh native is ostensibly a one-man party. For the seventh time, Weese throws his own birthday bash, inviting a slew of his favorite (mostly) local bands to play a three-night throw-down. Friday's bill features peppy Jersey pop-punkers A Criminal Risk, outlaw country supergroup STAG (led by Snatches of Pink's Michael Rank), pub-bred power pop from Richard Bacchus, glammy prog-psych by Left Outlet and DOCO's reggae-riddled rock jams. Saturday is stacked with straight-ahead guitar demigods The T's, somewhat more adventurous shredders The Last Tallboy, anthemic post-rockers Gray Young, rootsy popsters Jack the Radio and venerable alt-country bar burners American Aquarium. Magic Mike Casey entertains between sets. Sunday's finale comes with a double dose of dirty garage rock thanks to the Static Minds and Steadham, a fuzzy slab of riffage via the Trousers, the arena-aspiring polish of Colourslide and a special appearance from Buddy Holley Four Barrel—or, the return of a band that rhymes with Fatty Durst Lifter.—Spencer Griffith

Saturday lineup: American Aquarium, The T's, Jack the Radio, The Last Tallboy, Gray Young, Magic Mike
