Durham
Mallarmé Chamber Players with Brussels Chamber Orchestra

Kirby Horton Hall, Duke Gardens—Now in their 25th year, Durham's Mallarmé Chamber Players bring together some of the state's top classical musicians to perform intimate works in small ensembles. This evening, members of the group will join the Brussels Chamber Orchestra for a program featuring string serenades and trios by Beethoven, Dvorák and Thomas Kraines.

The multinational, Belgium-based Brussels ensemble arrives in the Triangle July 2 to lead its tour, dubbed the Cross Currents Chamber Music Arts Festival. Performances include three concerts in Raleigh, a rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner" at Friday's Bulls game and a free, open rehearsal at the First Baptist Church of Cary from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday. Meanwhile, today's Durham concert is part of Duke's Music in the Gardens series. Tickets for the 7 p.m. performance are $10, or $5 for Duke employees and free for Duke students and ages 12 and under. For more information on the Cross Currents tour of the Triangle, visit www.brusselschamberorchestra.com. —Margaret Hair

I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change

Kennedy Theater, Progress Energy Center—You know, there's been a disturbing number of recent incidents involving people getting killed upon answering personals ads on Craigslist. It might be better to use a more reliable source, such as the personals section in the Independent. Actually, that's a joke, as you'll see by paging to the back of this paper—there isn't a personals section anymore. But when Joe DiPietro and Jimmy Roberts' long-running musical comedy about dating and marriage premiered in 1996, people were still meeting via newspaper personals. Hot Summer Nights at the Kennedy follows up on last summer's production of Personals with this crowd-pleaser, which chronicles the agony and ecstasy of relationships, ranging from dating and marriage to newborns to the geriatric set. The show runs through July 19; general admission is $22 and $18 for students, seniors and military.
