Waxahatchee, Weyes Blood, Try the Pie

When: Tue., Oct. 13, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $14-$16
Waxahatchee’s presence on Merge, which released the band’s Ivy Tripp earlier this year, makes sense: Katie Crutchfield, songwriter and vocalist-guitarist, writes power pop songs that are scuffed with enough heartbreak and distortion to recall the peaks of pre-blog-calcification indie rock. Her shrewd observations of emotions and small slights (“I could stop praying for everybody, I’m just wasting my time/ I’ll read your philosophy and get a new lease on life”) benefit from her back-to-basics arrangements. —Maura Johnston
