Watsky, Dumbfounded

When: Sat., July 7, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $12-14

Nerdy rappers with street cred are nearly impossible to come by, but if you could find an American-accented Slick Rick, that person might well be George Watsky. He won Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry in 2007 and has performed for the NAACP, evidence that his erudition and sarcastic wit transcend racial boundaries. The self-explanatory "Seizure Boy" expresses the ambiance of losing consciousness, while the contrarian "Fuck an Emcee Name" suggests the comedic genius of early Marshall Mathers. The 9 p.m. show costs $12 in advance, $14 at the door; visit local506.com. —James Hatfield
