Warehouse Blues Series: Selwyn Birchwood

When: Fri., July 18, 6 p.m. 2014
Price: free
If your M—F'ing, 9-to-5 gig has you down, head to the park for empathy and steep yourself in the aching tones of the city's Warehouse Blues Series. Now in its ninth year, the series runs every Friday in July, with this year's bookings centered on the slide guitar. This week's installment features the Selwyn Birchwood Band, a five-piece Tampa outfit that delivers sparkling Chicago-style electric guitar slides rather than the more resonant variety found most frequently in these parts. Even though he's only 29, Birchwood has the guitar chops and smoky, deep vocals of bluesmen twice his age. And while the blues are the reason for this (concert) season, expect a few pick-me-up dance tunes to add some pep to the after-work exhale.—Allison Hussey
