Did you know that 20% of Durham residents are functionally illiterate and may not be able to read their bill statements or even a menu? You can expand someone's world enormously through literacy tutoring. The Durham Literacy Center is currently looking for volunteer tutors for their fall semester. Opportunities exist in Adult Literacy, ESOL, Computer Literacy, and the Teen Career Academy. No teaching experience is necessary; training is provided. Those interested can attend an information session. For more information, visit us online at durhamliteracy.org or send queries to volunteer@durhamliteracy.org.
