Violet Vector & the Lovely Lovelies, The Huguenots, DJ Mixcake

When: Sat., April 24, 10 p.m. 2010
Technicolor sextet Violet Vector and the Lovely Lovelies are set to blast their last batch of pop sunshine into space. It's a fond farewell to a band that for several years and two EPs used girl-group swagger and both bright vocals and clothes to wrap sugar-sweet tunes with modern concerns. "For me," says Amanda Brooks, who founded the group, "this was a band I started with a very specific idea for the sound and vibe and presentation. And now that it's been almost five years on this particular path, I kind of just want to start from scratch and do something else and see what happens."

Have the Lovelies accomplished everything Brooks had hoped? "I think we did," she says, qualifying those intentions. "It's really about making a good pop song." Anyone in earshot of the Lovelies' pop gems would likely confirm the band's success on that front. Tickets are $6 for the 10 p.m. show. The Huguenots open, and DJ Mixcake spins records around sets. —Ashley Melzer
