Victor Wooten

When: Sun., July 4, 10 p.m. 2010
Price: $20–$25

Best known for holding down the low end for Béla Fleck and the Flecktones during the bluegrass/ jazz-fusion combo's two-decade run, virtuoso bassist Victor Wooten has an impressive résumé that includes collaborations with piano maestro Chick Corea and frat-rock faves Dave Matthews Band. Along the way, Wooten has carved out a worthy solo career—now six discs deep, including the Grammy-nominated Yin-Yang—by folding those broad-reaching influences into his open-minded palette. Wooten's live show is an awe-inspiring bass clinic, with Vic's brothers—pianist Joseph and guitarist Regi—and drummer Derico Watson filling in the gaps between his impressive array of slaps, pops and grooves. —Spencer Griffith
