Vetiver, Twelve Thousand Armies

When: Mon., Nov. 1, 9:30 p.m. 2010
Price: $10-12

Sure, San Francisco's Vetiver—fronted by Greensboro expat Andy Cabic—may pal around with Devendra Banhart, but the gentle indie folk quintet's pop-friendly approach is more in line with contemporaries like Fleet Foxes. That's not to say they're living in the now: From the dreamy, psych-flavored swirls of guitar and organ that color early cuts extending into into six-minute territory to the languid acoustic jangles that lazily drift, Vetiver recalls the hippie spirit that freak folk bands so often try—and fail—to re-create. The classic, carefree pop/ rock sound of local opener Twelve Thousand Armies is similarly retro-minded. —Spencer Griffith
