Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo is considered a classic among cinephiles and mainstream audiences alike. With all of its twist and turns, to imagine it as anything but a film seems almost impossible. Yet UNC's Department of Communication Studies took the challenge. Inspired by Hitchcock's film, communications student Lucius Robinson has adapted the novel by Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac into a play, which UNC's Artist in Residence Joseph Megel is directing. Much of the plot stays the same, but one imagines that the tricky part will be incorporating all those scene changes—including the climactic scene atop the mission tower.

Still, why remake this classic at all, especially as a theater performance? According to Megel, "We are trying to see what live theater does to cinematic experience and our view of it." Hey, you've sparked our curiosity. The shows runs Nov. 12–21; tickets are $10 or $5 for students. —Belem Destefani
