Van Tassel Harvest Ball: A Sleepy Hollow Masquerade

When: Sat., Oct. 27, 7-11 p.m. 2012
Phone: 919-339-1558
Price: $50

Triangle Sertoma Club—As a kid, I always saw the Disney version of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and the short story as being a joke about the nature of small-town superstitions, which would make the cottage industry that has sprung up around the Headless Horseman quite ironic. I actually have an action figure of the Horseman from the Tim Burton film that I display for Halloween, but I always leave his head on; he's just creepier when he's Christopher Walken. This event by Historical Interpretations Inc. pays homage to the legacy of the original story, including a catered three-course meal exactly as depicted in Irving's tale, a dinner theater presentation, costume and pumpkin-carving contests, fire jugglers and tarot card readings. In the interest of life avoiding art, please do not take a lonely, isolated road home from the venue, which is at 7315 Guess Road. The event runs 7–11 p.m. and costs $50. —Zack Smith
