UNEXPOSED: JIM HAVERKAMP

THURSDAY, FEB. 26, DURHAM

THE SHADOWBOX—In 2014, the Unexposed series—where experimental films, their creators and small audiences mingle in intimate spaces—bounced around Durham before finishing up the year in Bacchus Muse, aka the barebones room above Geer Street barbecue joint The Pit. But that space was declared unfit by city inspectors, according to a December update on the Bacchus Muse Facebook page. Now Unexposed moves to a new venue we hope will stick. Durham filmmaker, Duke professor and Strange Beauty Film Festival cofounder Jim Haverkamp has a new studio called The Shadowbox in North Durham, resurrected from its prior location in a defunct garage on Washington Street. The venue switch for Unexposed also marks the unveiling of the new Shadowbox to the public. Six of Haverkamp's shorts will be screened, including standalone works such as the weird, lyrical When Walt Whitman Was a Little Girl and excerpts from larger projects such as Fistful of Love, a short film used in a Little Green Pig theatrical production. Only 25 people will be admitted to this double-housewarming for Unexposed and Haverkamp, so show up early if you'd like to be among the oh-so-exclusive few. 8 p.m., free, 2200E Dominion St., Durham, 352-318-5872, www.durhamunexposed.tumblr.com. —Brian Howe
