Uncle Mountain, Kodiak Farm Boys, Eno Mountain Boys

When: Thu., Jan. 5, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $6

Asheville's Uncle Mountain is the kind of band that could get lost in the North Carolina crowd. That's not a knock on their expressive folk-rock; they mix off-kilter experimentation, road-worn psychedelics and emotional songwriting in a way that veers toward Megafaun and Bowerbirds. It's a credit, then, to this talented outfit that they still stand out. They manage anti-folk grit alongside the melodic strength of '70s rock, but their hooks move with an arena-ready utility. The Kodiak Farm Boys and Eno Mountain Boys open the 9 p.m. show. —Jordan Lawrence
