FLYLEAF BOOKS—Michelle Robinson, an assistant professor in American studies at UNC-Chapel Hill, delivers a talk on civil rights movement-era Hollywood films set in Paris. Her lecture, "Funny Valentine: Paris, Blackface and Paramount's Funny Face," explores the significance of that city for the film industry of the day. Funny Face, the 1957 classic starring Audrey Hepburn, serves as the main focus, but Robinson will also discuss 1961's Paris Blues and 1960's The Subterraneans, a Kerouac adaptation with a white actress playing the female lead, who was black and Cherokee in the original novel. Robinson is a compelling lecturer with sharp intersectional insight, so expect a challenging yet engaging presentation. 4:30 p.m., $8–$20, 752 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Chapel Hill, 919-942-7373, www.flyleafbooks.com. —Allison Hussey
