Tyree Daye and Rob Greene

When: Thu., Jan. 11, 7:45 p.m. 2018
Price: free

So cold that you're having trouble recalling that you do, in fact, live in the South? Local poets Tyree Daye and Rob Greene will be at Flyleaf Books this Thursday to remind you. The two friends and colleagues at the Raleigh Review (which Greene founded in 2010) both published books in 2017 that call forth the communities, ecologies, ghosts, mysteries, and redemptions of hard-earned life in the South. Their reading will follow an open mic that begins at 6:45 p.m. The two poets won't be sharing the stage for the first time, but they will be sharing new work in addition to what appears in Daye's River Hymns, winner of the 2017 APR/Honickman First Book Prize from The American Poetry Review, and Greene's first book, Biloxi Back Bay (Rabbit House Press). What they dredge up from bayous and North Carolina riverbeds is rarely pretty, but it is honest and still, somehow, sublime. —Kendra Langdon Juskus
