Ty Segall, The Dead Bedrooms

When: Tue., April 17, 8 p.m. 2018
Price: $23-$25
Freedom’s Goblin—the sprawling double album Ty Segall dropped in January—reinforces the riff lord’s reputation as a prolific, eclectic songwriter with a penchant for both psychedelic solos and scuzzy hooks. Backed by The Freedom Band, which features fellow garage dweller Mikal Cronin, Segall swings wildly from gentle folk to glammy disco and funk. Freedom’s Goblin is a patchwork quilt of styles unified by his knack for the ultra-melodic. In the opening slot, The Dead Bedrooms’ fuzzy jangles suggest Segall disciples with an occasional retro obsession; the Raleigh quartet’s “Another Good Day” suggests Sixties pop-rock by borrowing both doo-wop harmonies and reverb-soaked surf guitars. —Spencer Griffith
