Re: “Mobile home park residents caught in Catch-22

Renting - yes BUT home owners too! While you may be renting your "apartment" it is still the property of the owner. In this case the Home is the property of the home owner NOT the land owner. I think we need to consider the cost of moving a home that has been on a particular piece of property for any length of time as in this particular situitation. Does the land owner have a responsibility, and did he abdicate it, to his tenants in regards to the selling/dismantling of the part? He has after all taken their money for "rent" of a piece of property dedicated to housing a mobile home. Affordable Housing? Affordable for whom? A large portion of the Raleigh/Durham population simply CAN NOT afford "AFFORDABLE" housing. If your parents lived in this park how much could you pay to move them? Do a little investigating to find these so called "affordable" locations by comparative size, location, amenities, and price. Would they be rental properties, or would properties that the displaced person would own. It is not a cut and dried matter of ownership as the property owner owns the land while the mobile home owner owns the home. If by living in a rental property that is sold and the cost of moving your personal property would not only cost 3-4 times the value that property but would most likely destroy it in the process how would you feel then?
