Turnpike Troubadours, The Black Lillies

When: Thu., Oct. 29, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $22.50
By virtue of geography, Turnpike Troubadours are what you’d call Red Dirt country, a style of rabble-rousing music endemic to Oklahoma and Texas. But stylistically, Red Dirt dust permeates modern country music, too, thanks to Willie Nelson, the Eli Young Band and even Miranda Lambert. Turnpike Troubadours smooth down some of the Red Dirt rowdiness for plays at mainstream Nashville, but their tunes aren’t so glabrous as to be devoid of rambunctious charm. The quintet’s new, self-titled record is slick and mature and still raises some hell. —Patrick Wall
